Can I go from a Heavy Rigid to a Multi Combination licence?If ACT licenced, you will need to complete the knowledge test, and you wouldn’t be required to do the HC assessment, if competent with the trailer/s you would be required to complete the one-day course in the MC.

How long do I have to hand my paperwork to Access Canberra to obtain my licence?If you are deemed competent on completion of your heavy vehicle assessment, you have three months to present your paperwork to Access Canberra.

What are the medical requirements to gain a heavy vehicle licence?You need to complete a commercial driver health assessment if you're applying for a: medium rigid vehicle licence heavy rigid vehicle licence heavy combination vehicle licence multi-combination vehicle licence. You don't need to complete a commercial driver health assessment if you've already provided one to Access Canberra within the last 6 months. You must complete the health assessment every 5 years. Access Canberra will write to you reminding you to undertake the health assessment.

Will I be restricted to driving automatics if I sit an automatic truck assessment?Yes. You can only drive an automatic heavy vehicle. If you want to drive a vehicle with a synchromesh, or non-synchromesh gearbox, you are required to undertake further training and assessment.

Can I undertake training using my international driver's licence?No. You must hold an Australian driver’s licence for a minimum period of 12 months.

How long it will take for the assessments?Assessments are 1 hour and 30 minutes for: light rigid vehicle licences medium rigid vehicle licences heavy rigid vehicle licences heavy combination vehicle licences Assessments for multi-combination vehicle licences are 2 hours and 40 minutes long. Once passed, the assessment is valid for 3 months.

What is your cancellation policy?We have a 7-day cancellation/change of date policy. If you require to change, reschedule or cancel your course we must be notified a minimum full 7 days prior to the commencement of your course. Failure to do this will result in all fees paid being lost. Fees will also be lost if you fail to turn up for your course. If you are unwell and cannot provide 7 days' notice, we can reschedule your course without any cost on receipt of your medical certificate.
